Royal Patron
Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj was born on December 12, 1990, as the third child and first son of Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj. He received his early education at Wellington College in the United Kingdom, graduating in 2009, and later pursued a Bachelor’s of Science in Ecology and Environmental Biology at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2014. Following his academic journey, he underwent military training at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where he graduated in 2016, preparing him for leadership roles in various sectors.
As the Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah plays a key role in the state’s leadership and development. In 2017, he founded the Selangor Youth Community (SAY), with the vision of fostering a dynamic and engaged youth society through programs, events, and activities that are designed by and for the youth. His commitment to youth development has been central to SAY’s mission of empowering young people across Selangor.
In addition to his work with SAY, Tengku Amir Shah is the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), a position he was reappointed to in August 2024. This appointment reflects his ongoing dedication to enhancing the educational landscape of Malaysia. He also leads Selangor FC & Selangor FA, the state’s football team, as its chairman and president. His leadership has been instrumental in revitalising the club and making it financially independent, while his passion for cycling further exemplifies his love for sports and wellness.
Tengku Amir Shah is also deeply involved in economic and charitable efforts. He was appointed the royal patron of Invest Selangor Bhd in December 2023, aiming to enhance the state’s economic growth by attracting investments. His philanthropic efforts include leading a fundraising expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro in 2023, with the proceeds directed toward establishing a speech and hearing aid center at the Raja Tun Uda Library in Selangor.
Additionally, he has collaborated with the King’s Trust International, and in February 2023, attended a reception hosted by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace to raise awareness about empowering at-risk youth. Through his leadership and continuous dedication to the welfare of the people, Tengku Amir Shah is shaping the future of Selangor and its youth, with a particular focus on education, sports, community development, and sustainability.
