In conjunction to the 60th year of the independence of Malaysia and Hari Malaysia, The Selangor Youth Community (SAY) organized a special celebration, called “#DemiNegara” where DYTM Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj, the Raja Muda of Selangor used public transport from Shah Alam all the way to the MRT Merdeka Station in Kuala Lumpur. The “#DemiNegara” Project aims to foster and promote patriotism and unity amongst the youth, reminding everyone of the sacrifices made by our ancestors to gain independence for Malaysia and our roles as young Malaysians to contribute for our nation.

On the 27th of August 2017, Raja Muda Selangor (RMS) departed Istana Mestike at 2.30 p.m. as he headed to the bus stop in front of Jakel Mall in Shah Alam, Seksyen 7. About 12 minutes later, he arrived at the Jakel Bus Stop and at 2.45 p.m., boarded the Selangorku free bus to LRT Glenmarie, together with the SAY volunteers in the bus as well. In the bus, RMS was accompanied by busker who played patriotic songs where RMS found the performance to be amusing, as a joyful vibe filled the atmosphere.

As he reached LRT Pasar Seni at around 3.52 p.m., he continued his journey by switching from LRT Pasar Seni to MRT Pasar Seni. It was almost 4 p.m. when RMS took the MRT from Pasar Seni right up to MRT Merdeka, where the celebration of “#DemiNegara” was held.

While RMS took the public transportation form Shah Alam to The Merdeka MRT station, which is one of the new built stations of the Klang Valley, some of the SAY volunteers and the mini orchestra group from Sekolah Seni KL, Bukit Jelutong had already gathered at the station. The organizers monitored the helped, as the volunteers and orchestra group rehearsed the songs that they were supposed to perform upon the arrival of RMS.

Dato’ Sri Azmi Abdul Aziz. The performance started off with the song “Setia” and everyone, including RMS joined in on the flash mob. It turned out to be a wonderful and a patriotic event at the MRT Merdeka Station with the unity of all three races.

This project also featured the Rukun Negara as the foundation of unity and basis of our constitution as well as our everyday lives in the country. Everyone wore headbands, the colours of the Malaysian flag with the slogan “#DemiNegara” and the atmosphere was filled with a cheerful vibe. Once the performance ended, there was a photography session and the event successfully ended with a pizza treat for everyone who participated.
